You can afford to shop at Tiffany’s

May 10, 2011

A few weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to have been invited to an event at Tiffany & Company’s Natick Collection store. So exciting and very worth dragging myself out of the computer lab for!  My night basically went down like this:

Without Patrick Dempsey. Unfortunately.

I had never been to Tiffany’s before. When I got the invitation, I was very much like Melanie Carmichael, thinking, “Are you sure?” I am super frugal– partly by necessity since I’m a graduate student and partly out of principle. I am, however, willing to pay for quality goods, and it turns out that Tiffany’s is actually within my budget after all. Color me impressed.

My favorite pieces were from the Paloma Picasso collection. I particularly liked the Zellige ring:

I love that it’s 3-dimensional. There are a few variations, but the sterling silver ring is only $250. I also liked the Paloma Picasso Hammered Ring, $135 for sterling silver and $325 for 18K gold.  The hammered rings are versatile and classic; you can wear them every day, so it’s a good value.

And then there’s the new line of Tiffany locks, a complement to the classic Tiffany keys. If I had to buy a nice present for sisters, I’d get them both locks or keys that reflect their different personalities. Many of the charms are within a 20-something budget, under $250.

It was also fun to get a tour of the sparkly side of the store– the Celebration Rings and yellow diamonds and engagement rings. I may or may not have gotten to try on a $70,000 diamond ring…

I left the store thinking that I would some day soon buy my own piece of Tiffany & Company jewelry, perhaps as a reward for finishing a thesis chapter. For now, I figured I’d settle for the blue box cookie the lovely Carrie handed me as I left. It was tasty!

When I got home, I sat down to pour through the Tiffany lookbooks with my roommate and found a fun little surprise:

A blue box of my own! The first piece of many; I hope to expand my collection soon. Many thanks to Tiffany & Company for a great event!

If Patrick Dempsey gave you the choice, what would you pick?

P.S. Check out Julie Q’s post about the event for fantastic pictures!
